Kogi PDP Condemns Leke Abejide For Ordering Police Brutality Against Yagba Indigenes

As Party questions the implementation of  N1.4b budgeted for  FERMA  for Road maintenance

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Yagba has raised an alarm to condemn the new twist of violence and brutality perpetrated in the mindless unprovoked attack and manhandling of an innocent citizen in the New Year on the instruction of Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, an attack the party described as reprehensible

The party also commend the youths and people of the community for the maintenance of law and order when this dastardly act on humanity was unleashed. They further reiterated that act of brutality and manhandling of an innocent citizen is incomprehensible in a democracy and our political history and no responsible political leader will unleash terror and brutality on his own people or any other persons, no matter the provocation.

In a statement signed signed by Dr. Oluwasegun Gbenga on behalf of the Media and Publicity Committee of the PDP Yagba Federal Constituency, the opposition party in strong terms.

He said "We are  not unaware of the ugly  and despicable incident that took place in Ife-Olukotun, Yagba East LGA on January 3rd 2023, at about 3pm around orita area, where Leke Abejide was returning to Alu and was flagged down, by some young people, obviously still in festive mood for a share of the Christmas and new year stuffs, which ordinarily should not provoke anyone including a member representing us at the House of representative. Who incidentally mobilize his police escorts to the scene to brutalized the youth and in the process inflicting injuries on innocent citizen? The party describe this act as unimaginable, reproachable and capable of inciting reprisal attack and unrest in our communities.

It is important to remind Hon Leke Abejide that, this despicable act of violence and brutality is alien in our polity and in a democracy, reprehensible and unnecessary act of violence cannot be encouraged and it's incomprehensible coming from a law maker who should know that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Hon Leke Abejide ought to know that he lacks executive powers and we are in a democracy and not in a military rule, if he feels offended, there are provisions and opportunities as entrenched in our Constitution instead of taking laws in hands. He is advised not to test the resolve and the patience of the people

The party warned Leke Abejide to desist from this dastardly act capable of inciting violence in the interests of peace before and during election, this act of violence is a great threat to our democracy, security and peaceful coexistence amongst our people.

The party, therefore, called on the state governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to call Leke Abejide to order, institute a panel of inquiry to avert destabilizing the gains the state Government has achieved in curbing violence and crisis in the state. The party also called on the Commissioner of Police to investigate the ugly incident and bring the Police men who were used for such dastardly act of violence and brutality on our people to book.
